School & Public Lands Commissioner Resigns

Bookmark and Share

The South Dakota governor's office says the state's commissioner of School and Public Lands is resigning his position this summer for family reasons

Jarrod Johnson was elected to the post in 2006 and re-elected in 2010. The position is a constitutionally-created office that administers state lands set aside to support schools and state institutions.

The Republican from Corson sent a letter to Gov. Dennis Daugaard saying his resignation is effective Aug. 15. Daugaard will appoint someone to fill out the remainder of Johnson's term, which ends in January 2015.

Johnson says he's enjoyed his time in the office managing resources held in trust on behalf of students and endowed institutions.
