SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- For the third straight season the Sioux Falls Skyforce will be spending the postseason at home despite holding their playoff fate in their own hands.
Needing a win at last-place Iowa to clinch the 8th and final playoff spot in the NBA D-League postseason, the Skyforce fell 109-104 in their regular season finale, finishing the 2012-13 season 25-25.
After losing their home finale to Fort Wayne on Friday night the Skyforce needed a victory at Iowa and a Maine loss to get the final playoff spot. Erie gave the Force the help they needed, knocking off Maine 108-105 midway through the Skyforce game.
But the Force never took advantage and trailed for virtually the entire game. Sioux Falls trailed by as many as 18 in the second half before mounting a final charge that got them within three in the fourth quarter. The Sioux Falls loss allowed Maine to back into the final playoff spot.
Jarvis Varnado led the Force with 23 points and 20 rebounds.
