People planning on visiting state government offices in South Dakota are urged to call ahead because of the ice and snowstorms plaguing much of the region.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard's office issued a statement saying that while offices are open in Pierre, people should still call before visiting to make sure someone is there.
The statement said that state employees, like other South Dakota residents, are digging out from the storm.
The National Weather Service is reporting ice accumulations from one-quarter of an inch to nearly a half-inch, leading to downed power lines and widespread tree damage.
