South Dakota Department of Transportation officials announce Interstate 90 between Rapid City and Wall is now open.
Interstate 90 between Wall and Mitchell remains closed, with no estimated time for it to be reopened. Crews are working to clear a number of stuck vehicles east of Wall.
Officials are asking motorists who are in Rapid City and headed east, to please stay in Rapid City.
The National Weather Service has said this storm will continue to intensify throughout the day making it impossible to predict when additional Interstate openings will be possible. If conditions continue to worsen as predicted, additional closures may be necessary before the storm passes through the state.
Motorists are reminded that a number of No-Travel advisories are still in place in central South Dakota.
Gusty winds and additional snow are continuing to create areas of blowing and drifting snow, snow-packed, and ice-covered highways across the state.
Motorists are being asked to drive with extreme caution and travel only when necessary.
