Two Sioux Falls men have pleaded guilty to federal drug charges that stemmed from a traffic assist involving a smoking vehicle.
U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says a Highway Patrol trooper stopped to help people in a vehicle sitting on the side of Highway 44 with its hood up and smoke coming from the engine compartment.
The trooper found a cigarette pack stuffed with a plastic bag containing methamphetamine near the vehicle's air intake.
Forty-year-old Alexis Salgado and 30-year-old James Menard pleaded guilty to drug possession this week.
They each face up to 20 years in prison.
