A long-time staple of central Sioux Falls has been damaged by the storm.
Hundreds of trees at McKennan Park have succumbed to the ice and snow. Like the story for many trees throughout the city, the weight is too much for the trees to handle. Many of the trees are now hunched over, have split in half or their limbs have fallen off.
Sue Coome, who has lived near McKennan Park for years, says it's sad to see so many trees go. She says she wonders how long it will take to restore the park back to it's original state.
Coome said, "The McKennan Neighborhood is known for their big trees and a lot of them are down and we're going to have to cut a lot of them down."
City crews will likely be cleaning up the park in Sioux Falls last. That's because they are busy tending to the trees that are covering roads and those that are a danger to residents in neighborhoods.
