As of late Friday night Xcel Energy says around 9,000 customers are still without power.
They say crews have restored power to more than 81,000 people in Sioux Falls.
Xcel says one of the main challenges they've been facing, is many residents are missing the first crucial step in the process.
They say in many of the cases, their mast, where the power line attaches to the home, has been destroyed. Once the mast is fixed Xcel workers can go forward with their job.
Jim Wilcox from Xcel Energy says, “"The homeowners actually own that mast so if that mast is damaged, the homeowner would have to contract with an electrician to repair that so we can reattach our service.”
Xcel Energy says they have 420 people in the field working Friday.
Crews from South Dakota, Minnesota and North Dakota, as well as crews from Iowa and Wisconsin are working in the affected communities.
