Get Ready for More Snow

Bookmark and Share

Our storm is getting a bit of a slow start, but will likely finish with a bang.  Everything is now pointing toward a pretty snowy Thursday.  Many components will come together much like last week to set up several hours of moderate to possibly heavy snow across parts of the east.  The snow will continue to expand in coverage and intensify tonight as it rolls in from areas of Colorado and Nebraska.  Snow could be heavy at times on Thursday making for one messy day of travel, so plan on slippery morning and evening commutes.  Here is an update on the latest with this storm.

The snowfall accumulation picked up by our futurecast can be seen above.  But what I want you to notice is that forecast is now lining up with what the computer forecasting models are showing and what other forecasters are predicting.  First, take a look at our same two computer models that we have shown over the last couple of days.  It is now astonishing how similar they are at this point.

Same orientation to the band of snow and even very similar amounts of snow expected.  This is practically a slam dunk forecast.  But, remember that these are just computers and don’t account for time of year, ground temperatures, and wind.  All of these variables can affectively lower snow totals, so I would expect these models to show the highest end of expected snowfall.  Notice that our current forecast above is a couple inches lower than these models.

Another way to check what other meteorologists are seeing is to look at the probability forecast produced by the Weather Prediction center.  The following 2 images are the probability of at least 2 and 6 inches of snow.

The entire area has at least a 95 percent chance of more than 2 inches of snow.  The east still has a 50 percent chance of more than 6 inches of snow.  Looks like its gonna be white around here yet again.
