The lobby of the State Theater in downtown Sioux Falls is getting its finishing touches.
The company that did the restoration project on the cathedral in Sioux Falls, Conrad Schmidt, is the same company working on the lobby restorations in the State Theater.
The lobby restoration began in 2010, but the ornate detailing and final paint weren’t set to be done until after the rest of the construction was completed. This was done to avoid damaging any of the original medallions and finishes.
“This is like the last piece of this part of the building and it will also extend to what we just added to concession stand and bathroom area,” said Stacy Newcomb-Weiland, President of the Board of Directors of the State Theater Company.
The restoration crew is using old photos of the lobby from its opening in 1926 to complete the restoration.
