Governor Dennis Daugaard has proclaimed Friday "a day of remembrance" to honor the late Governor George Mickelson and seven others who died in a plane crash 20 years ago.
The eight men were returning from Cincinnati when a propeller broke and the plane went down near Dubuque, Iowa.
They had traveled to Ohio to save the John Morrell plant in Sioux Falls.
Mark Mickelson was 27 when his dad died. He says one of the things he remembers about his dad, is he loved going to work every day.
Governor Daugaard asks all South Dakotans to pause for a moment of silence on Friday to remember the men and their contributions to the state.
