Unit of SD Army National Guard Returns Home

Fourteen soldiers with the South Dakota Army National Guard were back home Sunday after a nine month deployment to Kuwait and Afghanistan. Sunday morning a welcome home ceremony was held at the Holiday Inn City Center in Sioux Falls.

The men and women of the 927th Survey and Design team of South Dakota Army National Guard arrived state-side April 15 in Texas to get de-mobilized. The soldiers flew into Sioux Falls Saturday night, and Sunday morning they sat reunited with friends and family once again. But for one soldier in particular, this homecoming was even more special.

For Staff Sergeant Bradley Limbo, being back in South Dakota comes with a whole new set of responsibilities. Staff sgt. Limbo said this may be his third homecoming, but it’s his first time coming home to a family, and a new addition to it.

“Being in the military you’re doing your job on the daily side, and then coming home to have kids to take care off is a little different. But it will be good,” said Limbo.

Limbo and his wife Alesha have 2-year-old twins Torin and Tristan. When he was deployed nine months ago, his wife was pregnant with their now 9-month-old baby girl.

“(We've been) fortunate enough that we had the ability to get on the Internet so I saw the birth of our child on Skype, so I got to see her,” Limbo said.

He said he was able to Skype with his family throughout his deployment, and his new daughter would crawl toward the computer screen. But Limbo said finally being able to hold her, is the best feeling ever.

“It's different being gone for a year, they grow up so much and change a lot,” said Limbo. “So it's exciting to get back.”

Sergeant First Class Ronald Harris also has a little one that he’s coming home to. He finally gets to see his grandson. Who, it’s safe to say, is his biggest fan.

“It's wonderful to be home, you can't describe it, it's just great,” said Harris.

With all duties aside however, these soldiers said it’s time to catch up with their little soldiers.

“It's been kind of a blur I guess. Kind of busy, but exciting at the same time,” said Limbo.

While overseas, the unit did topographical studies on Kuwait and Afghanistan to help U.S. Forces in the region. The studies were also used to improve the country’s infrastructure. One project the unit worked on was an amphitheater for the king of Kuwait to be able to watch his soldiers train.
