Equestrian Dunlavy an All-American for SDSU

Bookmark and Share

Laura Dunlavy is one of the SDSU's best athletes.

Even though most at the school probably don't know what she does.

"I usually describe it as getting a horse to go through a series of manuevers and having complete control over them and your body.  And then making it look like you're not doing anything while you're doing it."  Dunlavy says.

The native Minnesotan has been training horses since she was 12, making her a perfect fit for equestrian.

"Laura can get on just about any horse and you can see that horse relax.  Laura is a great showman so she can go out in the competition arena and really turn it on.  She's a great rider, she has very good feel but she also has that other element of being able to show any horse and make it look smooth and effortless."    SDSU Head Coach Megan Rossiter says.

And the rest of the country has taken notice.  Less than a year after moving to reigning, Dunlavy earned All-American honors.

"I was about to go into class and I found out and I jumped up and down and yelled a little bit!  Far fetched goal of mine and something that I hadn't really set my sights on hard because I know that it's a huge achievement."    Dunlavy says.

"I feel like that gives the entire team more credibility.  People are kind of taking notice that his team is maybe a little better than they were expecting."  Rossiter says.

And made Dunlavy a big name on campus and around the country.
