3 Headed To Trial In SD Mountain Lion Hunting Case

Bookmark and Share

Two men accused of killing a mountain lion after it had been treed by hounds near Hill City in western South Dakota have pleaded not guilty.

Seventy-one-year-old James Jucht, of Sioux Falls, and 63-year-old David Terveen, of Emery, are scheduled for trial July 18 on misdemeanor charges of violating the conditions of a big game hunting license.

They each face up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted. They also could lose their hunting privileges for a year.

It's illegal to use hounds to hunt mountain lions in South Dakota, outside of limited hound hunting in Custer State Park.

Another man faces a June 11 trial in the case. Forty-one-year-old Wade Musick, of Mitchell, is accused of controlling the hounds.
