Next week's hearing that was to determine whether a 16-year-old Pierre boy should be tried as an adult on murder charges has been canceled.
Officials say that the hearing was canceled at the defense's request and no make-up date has been scheduled.
Prosecutors want to try McCahren as an adult on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and alternate counts of aggravated assault. McCahren has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He is accused in the Dec. 18 fatal shooting of 16-year-old Dalton Williams, as well as pointing a gun at a third 16-year-old boy who also was in the house at the time of the shooting.
Last week, Judge John Brown moved McCahren's trial date from June 3 to Aug. 7.
McCahren remains in custody.
