Prison Guard Out Of Hospital, 2 Charged

Charges have been filed against two inmates who are accused of assaulting a prison guard at the South Dakota State Penitentiary last week.
Communications & Information Manager Michael Winder says that the guard, Corporal Zane Mathis, is out of the hospital.
28-year-old Carlos Rapheal Green has been charged with one count of aggravated assault against a department of corrections employee.
A second inmate, 24-year-old Garrett Austin Dumarce has been charged with one count of aiding, abetting or advising aggravated assault against a department of corrections employee.
In conjunction with the Habitual Offender filing, Green faces up to life imprisonment and Dumarce faces up to 50 years in prison.
Green is currently serving a 35 year sentence for aggravated assault, a consecutive 5 year sentence for eluding a police officer and a consecutive 2 year sentence for sliming. All of the sentences are from Brown County. Dumarce is currently serving a 5 year sentence for grant theft committed in Roberts County.
On April 20, Corporal Zane Mathis suffered a fractured jaw and facial lacerations after he punched in the head several times.
