Keller Williams Realty Closes For RED Day

Bookmark and Share

Nearly 100 people at a company in Sioux Falls took the day off of work today. However, instead of playing hooky, they did something else.

They pitched in to help their community.

Thursday is a typical work day for associates at Keller Williams Realty in Sioux Falls.

However, on this Thursday, instead of putting on their suit and tie and heading to work, they put on bright red shirts and volunteered.

As part of the company's national RED Day, more than 700 communities across the country received a helping hand from Keller Williams Realty agents, and Sioux Falls was one of them.

“We had done some calls around the area and tried to find someone looking for volunteers. Believe or not it’s hard, when you have so many people, to find the projects that were big enough," said Patrick Showers, CEO of Keller Williams Realty in Sioux Falls.

However, one organization did need the volunteers, and a lot of them.

South Dakota Achieve, a non-profit organization in Sioux Falls, put the group of close to 100 volunteers to work.

"We have them all over town, in our homes raking leaves, cleaning up after the storm, cleaning vehicles and the list just goes on," said Linda Eidem, VP of Development for South Dakota Achieve.

The company split up into 20 different groups and volunteered their time at South Dakota Achieve homes across the city, before heading to the organization's main campus to clean nearly 100 fleet vehicles.

Eidem said it was a volunteer effort that would have taken much longer without the extra help.

“This is equivalent to 450 volunteer hours, some of this we would never get to, so it's beautifying things that need to get done that we could not do without our wonderful volunteers," said Eidem.

For the dedicated volunteers, a day off of work is fun, but giving back is even better.

“We're really happy to do this and to be able to give where we live. That's what it's all about," said Showers.

While this if the fifth annual RED Day for the company nationwide, this is the first time Keller Williams in Sioux Falls has participated.

The company opened in Sioux Falls in May of 2012.
