For many Mother’s Day is a day where you get together with your mother, grandmother, aunt or who ever has played the mother role in your life. But for one Sioux Falls mother and daughter, their Mother’s Day started out with a Mother’s Day celebration in a very unique way.
Bridget Fitzgibbons-Peterson is working on Mother’s Day. But by working, she is also celebrating. That’s because her daughter Meredith is right by her side.
"Just for Mother's Day, we've had to have done well over 200, we are pushing 300. I mean that's how many (arrangements) we did,” said Bridget.
The pair have a business together. Just over a year ago, they opened up ‘Meredith and Bridget’s Flower Shop.
"I kind of always wanted to, and I had really been like, 'Well, maybe I'll do that someday,'” said Bridget.
And that someday happened fast. The building, now home to their shop, was put up for sale. The two were at a place in their lives to take a gamble. A gamble a mother and a daughter made together.
"It was a swift decision, but it ended up working out really well,” said Meredith.
Business is booming, they couldn’t be happier and their relationship has never been stronger. Which means they’ll be spending holidays like this one together even if it’s on the job.
"We have the give and take of a mother and daughter thing still. You don't get away from that. But I want that because she is my daughter, but as far as a co-worker, she is the best,” said Bridget.
But Meredith said their new holiday tradition means her mother won’t be getting flowers. She said her mom is around them enough.
"It seems a bit redundant,” said Meredith.
Instead they’ll be making arrangements for other mothers.
"We are right on board as where we want our business to go, because we both have the same goals,” Bridget said.
