Kyle Larson Enjoys Dirt Tracks Like Huset's Speedway

Bookmark and Share

For 20-year old Kyle Larson, life literally is one big race.

"Yeah I race, you know, as much as I can.  And when I'm not racing sprint cars and stock cars and stuff I'll be go be racing my go-kart or racing on my computer."  Larson says.

That's part of the reason Larson came to Brandon to race sprint cars at Husets Speedway fresh off races in North Carolina and Iowa in the last 48 hours.

"I've never been here before, and I had nothing else going on today.  And we were close in Knoxville last night so I thought I'd drive over here and give it a go."  Larson says.

Larson might be lucky that the race, and his life, didn't come to an end three months ago when he escaped unscathed in this accident at Daytona that injured several spectators.

But Kyle has been stronger since, currently 10th in the Nationwide Series, earning the praises of many current stars, including one who's also raced the Husets oval.

"I'm blown away by this kid.  I mean, he makes me look like nothing.  The kid is really spectacular.  I think he's probably the rawest, most talented race car driver that I know of."  Jeff Gordon says.

"It's good to have guys like that talking about you and it does a lot for my career.  But I try not to pay too much attention to it just because I don't want it to go to my head or anything like that."  Larson says.

Though his future likely includes more stock car racing, Larson says he'll always try to take time to get to places like Husets and return to his dirt track roots.

"I like coming out here and, you know, getting to see a lot of friends and stuff I haven't seen in a while.  And the fans are the greatest in dirt racing."  Larson says.

Meaning Larson will probably keep living life at full throttle.
