BROOKINGS, S.D. -- For 15 consecutive years the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles won the Summit League's automatic bid to the N-C-Double-A Baseball Tournament.
So if you can't beat them, get them out of the league!
With Eagles flying to the Southland Conference, the door might finally be open for SDSU to make their first trip to baseball's Big Dance.
The Summit League Tournament started today with the Jacks entering as the only team above .500 (31-21) and holding the top seed.
S-D-S-U has finished runner up at the tournament three of the last four seasons, losing each time to Oral Roberts, and feels it's their time to finally capture an elusive Summit League Tournament title.
"Definitely. From the beginning of the season we thought we had a very good chance to this thing. And NDSU was the other favorite to win it and they've kind of fallen off a little bit so we're feeling pretty confident right now." SDSU Senior Pitcher Layne Somsen says.
"Going through the league it's pretty spread out, pretty wide open, but I think right now we're playing well and it's a perfect time to get going." SDSU senior IF/OF Andrew Melton says.
"We've talked since the beginning of the fall about, we're going to have ten games in the last eight days of the season, we want to put our team in the opportunity to make a run and win the thing." SDSU Manager Dave Schrage says.
