An Aberdeen restaurant has agreed to pay back wages and fines after a federal Labor Department investigation concluded Mavericks Steak and Cocktails broke several labor laws.
Mavericks failed to pay overtime wages of more than $12,200 to a number of employees over a period of two years. The business has agreed to pay back double that amount, plus about $2,100 for breaking child labor laws.
Mavericks President Kraig Schlaht says he had parental consent for his underage employees to work late hours and he was not aware that it was still a violation. He says the overtime pay problem was due to a computer error.
Former employee Kevin Stillman says Schlaht made workers sign a waiver of overtime pay. Schlaht disputes that.
