Telford Leads Jacks To Big (Diamond) Dance

BROOKINGS, S.D. --  Five long balls, in a very cold spring, puts Daniel Telford tops in the Summit League homerun race.  But is batting average is what's really turning heads.

Hitting right around .450, a game without a Telford base hit is pretty rare.

"He's been our one constant offensively.  I mean, guys just don't bat .500 in college and that's what he's doing."  Manager Dave Schrage Says.

His senior year has proved to be his best.  And the difference between batting .200 last year and .400 plus this year?

"Uh trying to shoot the ball to left field.  Going the other way, taking what they're going to give you.  And I think that's led to a lot of my success."  Telford says.

And that discipline at the plate means pitchers are looking at Telford a whole new way.

"Teams are having to come in on me again because I'm hitting the ball the other way so well.  And that's just making it easier to hit everywhere I guess."  Telford says.

Telford's success helps spark the rest of the Jacks lineup.

"He's the kind of guy that gets us going.  When he comes up everybodies like 'something good is going to happen'.  And hitting is contagious and he's been our leader in that way."  Schrage says.

"You know, get my pitch, and staying consistent, I think the confidence I have helps.  I mean, going out there and just keep doing what you're doing."  Telford says.

Dan Telford, raking the ball than just about anyone in the Summit League, hopes to use his hot bat well into the tournament.
