SDSU Savors First NCAA Baseball Tourney Bid

Bookmark and Share

BROOKINGS, S.D. --  For the fifth time this year alone an SDSU team is headed to the NCAA Tournament.

Yesterday the Jackrabbit baseball team beat North Dakota State twice in the Summit League Baseball Tournament to earn a bid to baseball's big dance.

Today they gathered at Cubby's in Brookings to watch the tournament selection show where they learned they would be playing at Oregon in the Eugene regional.

And  the Jacks celebrated getting that elusive first bid after finishing runner up three of the last four years.

"Coach put a picture up and said expect a dogpile and go to the championship and we've been grinding it all season, that's been our motto.  And I think it's kinda surreal for a lot of the guys because we really didn't expect this but it's a great feeling."  SDSU Senior Daniel Telford Says.

"Honestly I'm still kind of in shock with it all but we'll just go out there and do our best I guess."  SDSU Senior Layne Somsen Says.

"You know the moment yesterday was for all those players that have worn an SDSU uniform and played baseball in our program because we finally got it done for all them.  It also meant a lot to our seniors that have been so close to, you know, finally finish it off."  SDSU Manager Dave Schrage says.

The Jacks and Ducks will play at 8 PM CST in Eugene on Friday.
