IPSWICH, S.D. --
It's not a stretch to say that Ipswich 8th grader Macy Heinz was born to run.
"I always came to the State meets before. Like my neighbor, Tory Moore, and my sister, Tara Heinz, you know, they're both runners too. And, I mean, I think they really got me into it because I watched them for so long." Heinz says.
And since she began competitively in the sixth grade, Macy has been on a fast track to success, winning seven state titles and two MVPs at her first two state track meets, as well as the special event 800 at this year's Howard Wood Relays.
"I knew right away she had a lot of talent. She's got a lot of want. You know, a lot of people don't see the behind the scenes stuff, but she works extremely hard already. She's very dilligent about everything she eats and everything she does.." Coach Todd Thorson says.
If there's one thing Macy wants to slow down for, it's looking too far ahead.
"I really, I had no idea where I'd be. I mean, I'm still young, so I still got a long ways so, I mean, I hope to improve more. And I feel like I got a lot of improvement to make until the time I graduate." Heinz says.
"I don't think she'll ever get sick of it. It's kind of like, I love my wife, nobody tells me to take a day off, or a month off or two months. She loves to run. She doesn't want to take time off, she wants to just continue to run." Thorson says.
Which probably means we'll be seeing more time off her finishes in years to come
