This baseball packed plays of the week starts in the Bird Cage, something that's usually a bad thing, a wild pitch by Jared Whatcott. But, Steve Domecus finds the ball quickly and Whatcott makes the tag at the plate. Leaving the Wichita manager none too happy but he would later find peace when his team beats the birds 7 to 5.
Number 4 brings us to Eugene Oregon for our first of three SDSU baseball top plays. Andrew Melton makes a diving catch and doubles up a runner at first. But, the Dons would prevail in this game.
Three brings us back to the Beaver State where freshman Paul Jacobson flashes the leather with a diving catch against the Dons of USF. Despite the good defense The Jacks fall in extra innings and their Summit League Championship season ends.
For someone who is having a slow start, Aaron Hicks sure has a flair for the dramatics and a knack for making the Sheels Plays of the Week. Here he is robbing Milwaukee's Carlos Gomez. And he doesn't just steal home runs, base hits are no match for his range in center as he makes this diving catch the following night. The Twins come away with a four game sweep against the brewers.
And the top play in the land, Layne Somsen, The Summit League pitcher of the year showed exactly why he deserved the title when he held the 9th ranked team in the country to one earned run through 7 innings. He struck out 6 Ducks in a 3 to 2 loss.
