Typically, the most cash someone would get for a tip leading to an arrest would be about $250. But, with more meth cases in Mitchell the reward is getting higher.
Mitchell Police and Mitchell Crime Stoppers are asking for the public’s help.. Meth arrests in Mitchell are at all-time high.
“It’s something that we've never experienced before to have something like that every 5 days,” said Lieutenant Don Everson.
With a meth related arrest every 5 days in the city law enforcement wanted to take action. So, the city's crime stoppers will pay more for information involving meth in Mitchell.
“We came up with an initiative that offers up to a $1,000 for tips made to Mitchell Area Crime Stoppers that lead to an arrest in a methamphetamine case involving possession or distribution,” said Lt. Everson.
Meth isn't a problem that just Mitchell is combatting. Lt. Everson says it's a growing problem throughout the state.
“It's easier to make now. People are making it in 20oz pop bottles, if they know what they are doing, “said Lt. Everson.
But with the new crime stopper incentives Mitchell residents are taking notice and trying to keep their streets drug free.
“Some are under investigation; some are waiting for analysis to be done on the cases. But, we think it's going to pay off,” said Lt. Everson.
Hopefully a step in the right direction for law enforcement dealing with a drug that continues to make its way through the country.
