A South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks commissioner has resigned. Tim Kessler of Aberdeen was the target of a lawsuit filed last month seeking his removal from the commission because he has served longer than the eight years allowed by state law.
Kessler said Tuesday he believed he would have prevailed in court, but he didn't want to have the lawsuit become a distraction from commission business. Kessler served under three governors since 1992. Gov. Mike Rounds reappointed him to a new four-year term last year.
