The Vault Closes Its Doors

One Sioux Falls business that has had its fair share of troubles announced Tuesday that it has closed. The Vault Night Club, off of South Carolyn Avenue, posted on its Facebook page it is no longer in business.

The Vault has had some extra eyes on it after multiple complaints of noise and lack of security. Back in December, the Sioux Falls City Council debated whether to renew the venue’s liquor license. The council decided it would renew the license, but council members said the club needed to make some serious changes. Now that the Vault's doors are closed, it has left some wondering why.

“It doesn't come as a big shock to me. That location has struggled a lot in the past, and to see it change again wouldn't be a surprise,” said Greg Jamison, Sioux Falls City Council.

Jamison said even though it isn't a shock to see the business close its doors, it’s sad to see it go.

“I spent some time there investigating how operations are like and things,” Jamison said. “And I saw some interesting business models there and how it all worked. So I guess from seeing it on the inside, I could see its vulnerable parts.”

Jamison said there might be another reason why the venue decided to close up shop.

“We kind of gave them a stern warning to change their practices in order to renew their license,” said Jamison.

Those changes included getting more outside security to monitor the people coming and going to the club. The Vault also needed to pick up after themselves, and make sure their customers weren't parking in neighboring businesses.

“At Hampton Inn, we didn't have a lot of problems,” said Tracy Kolb, General Manager at Hampton Inn. “Occasionally people would try to park in our parking lot but I know the Vault was really good about stopping that.”

The Hampton Inn is two doors down from the club. Kolb said she wasn't shocked to hear the club had closed either. But like Jamison, she said she is sad.

“There are not a lot of places like that in Sioux Falls. I'm sure there are going to be a lot of disappointed people,” said Kolb.

As for Jamison, he said he just hopes it’s only a temporary close and things will turn around.

The owners of the Vault were unavailable for comment. However, on the club’s social media pages, they thanked everyone for a wonderful three years.

The Vault first opened its doors in May of 2010.
