Opponents of a proposed $16 million Missouri River development in Fort Pierre are asking a judge to add more issues to a public vote on the project.
The City Council earlier this month accepted some referral petitions and scheduled a July 9 election on a boat storage area approved for the proposed Riverwalk Landing project.
But council members twice rejected petitions on zoning changes and a deferred development fee, saying those council actions were administrative and not subject to a public vote.
Opponents disagree and are asking Judge John Brown to side with them. A hearing is scheduled July 3.
The Riverwalk Landing project would include a marina, restaurant and retail space. Opponents believe the city is giving the project preferential treatment. Supporters believe it will help the entire city.
