Yankton's Somsen Makes Pro Debut With Billings

Bookmark and Share

HELENA, MT  --  Yankton native Layne Somsen made his professional baseball debut for the Billings Mustangs last night in Helena, Montana.

Somsen worked two scoreless innings of relief at Helena last night, striking out one and walking one.  He picked up a hold in the Mustangs 9-2 win.

At 24, Layne's the second oldest player on the Mustang roster, but he thinks age and the experience of rehabbing from Tommy John surgery will benefit him in the minors.

"Just from the adversity I went that I went through I think it'll help me through the minors because there is a lot of adversity in the minors.   Not knowing if you're going to move up or if they're going to let you go or stuff, you just gotta stay focused on what you want to do."  Somsen says.
