The Sioux Falls Sprinkler Task Force met Tuesday as they prepare a final recommendation to submit to the Sioux Falls City Council's Public Services Committee.
The group’s main focus is to offset the costs of sprinkler systems for properties with 16 units or less. Some on the task force say that with modern technology, there are ways to cut costs and still provide a fire suppression system that won't discourage developers from building in Sioux Falls.
The fire marshal also gave suggestions that include a small decrease in the width of the road, and extending the proximity to a fire hydrant at no added risk to the tenants.
This option could save tens of thousands of dollars.
No proposal has been finalized and the panel is open to suggestions.
