A former manager accused of embezzling from a Rapid City convenience store has been ordered to pay more than $6,000 in restitution and other costs.
Authorities say 34-year-old Phillip Batten was managing the store for MG Oil last September when he walked out with $5,100 in cash. He was traced to West Virginia and brought back to South Dakota, where he pleaded guilty to a grand theft charge.
Batten was given a suspended four-year prison sentence and ordered to reimburse MG Oil. He also must pay $1,200 for the cost of his extradition, along with court costs and attorney fees.
