Archaeologists from around the country are paying a visit to Mitchell’s prehistoric Indian Village over the weekend.
As part of the Indian Village’s Archeology Awareness days, archeologists, pottery and archery experts and Native American game experts are teaching children and adults different techniques.
One station displayed stone tools that date back 3 million years ago and demonstrated how to make them.
“For the Indian Village, we are bringing a lot more awareness to our facility here and are considered one of the most important archeology sites in the Great Plains,” said Director Cindy Greg.
Mitchell’s Prehistoric Indian Village is the only archeological site in South Dakota that is open to the public.
