A storm that rolled through southeastern South Dakota on Sunday night brought dangerous lightning to the city of Yankton.
Deputy Fire Chief Larry Nickles says that firefighters responded to three reported strikes.
He says witnesses saw lightning strike a tower on the Mount Marty College campus, though firefighters didn't find any damage. He says an apartment building that was struck also escaped damage, but a home in the city suffered minor damage in a lightning strike that felled a tree onto some power lines.
Storms on Sunday caused flash flooding and tree and home damage in many other communities in the region. The city of Pierre set a rainfall record for the date, with 1.67 inches. That broke the city's July 7, 1992, record of 1.09 inches.
