South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has appointed a task force to study ways of increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
The state Human Services Department will lead the task force, which will include business representatives, state officials and people with disabilities.
Daugaard says everyone should have a chance to earn a living and get a sense of fulfillment from having a job. He says he wants to show South Dakota employers the benefits of hiring people with disabilities.
Daugaard says he will ask state government to act as a role model, starting with a focus on how state agencies can improve their policies and hiring practices.
The governor says the task force will help dispel misconceptions that businesses have about hiring people with disabilities.
