Thursday marked a step in the right direction for those who have been working on the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System.
Congress has appropriated $25 million to go towards six different rural water projects in the United States. One of those projects is Lewis and Clark. Directors said they hope to get at least $4 million from the appropriation. That money, plus another $3 million President Barack Obama allocated to the project will help the system connect to a twelfth area.
“If we were to get some of this $25 million, it would allow us to put pipe in the ground to get roughly halfway between the Iowa border and Luverne, Minn. Which would allow us to connect Rock County Rural Water District,” said Troy Larson, Executive Director of Lewis and Clark Regional Water System.
If the system doesn’t receive the additional funding, any money it does receive will go towards engineering. Directors said the project still needs over $200 million to be completed.
