Colton Iverson and Layne Somsen grew up in Yankton together dreaming of playing in the pros.
"The boys always did things together. We actually have a picture from the State Tournament where Layne's guarding in front of Colton. That was six years ago now. And it's come full turn." Dan Somsen says.
"It's pretty crazy to think about that. Not a whole lot of people believe it. Two kids from the same town, just, drafted. We live down the block and we're great friends.." Colton Iverson says.
Especially since their dreams nearly died when they went their separate ways. Layne hurt his arm at South Dakota State and needed Tommy John Surgery, while Colton saw his playing time decrease at Minnesota, transferring to Colorado State. Through adversity the friends stayed in touch and their bond grew stronger.
"I know they're in constant contact and I know they're both each other's biggest fans as far as how they do and the success they have." Chuck Iverson says.
"Not everything going his way, and I kind of went through that too. I mean it's good just to have a good friend like that that's in the same situation." Colton says.
After brilliant senior seasons, their dreams came true in the same month. Somsen was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds, and Iverson by the Boston Celtics.
"Both of them have probably grown up a lot in the last five years. They've both had their challenges, and they've both met their challenges." Dan Somsen says.
And now they'll begin pro careers in different sports across the country, with a friendship just as strong as when they were down the street.
