Community Invited To Paint Mural

Meldrum Park in Sioux Falls is getting a make-over this weekend. Artist or not, the community is invited to come with their paint brushes ready.
It all started 2 years ago when a Whittier Middle School 8th grade social studies class discussed what they could do to spruce up Meldrum Park and make it more of a community.
The school held a presentation and many city officials like Mayor Mike Huether came to help get the project up and running. An artist was hired to design a mural at the park. Now the time has come for the community to get involved. The students have invited the Whittier Community to leave their own mark and splash the mural with diversity.
“Whittier neighborhood is not a large neighborhood because as you are in the core of the city, it’s very compact. Given the size of the neighborhood and the fact that there’s over 60 languages in this neighborhood, it’s been called the Ellis Island of the Plains,” said coordinator Lela Himmerich.
The mural is a specific design. The community must follow and not change the design that is on the mural.
