Relay For Life Kicks Off Friday
July 25, 2013 10:39 PM
As many as 1,000 people are expected to lace up their tennis shoes at the O’Gorman High School Field to walk for a cause.
The 2013 Relay For Life Of Lincoln and Minnehaha Counties kicks off Friday night. The public is invited to attend the relay, which raises money for cancer. It runs from 6 p.m. Friday and Through 6 a.m. Saturday morning. Volunteers and event organizers say it’s 12 hours long for a reason.
“The reason we have Relay For Life overnight is to signifity the journey of a cancer patient. Cancer doesn’t sleep and neither do we,” said volunteer Amy Harms.
If you aren’t interested in staying the whole night, the American Cancer Socity added a 5K run that starts at 7 p.m. There is a 5K fee but the overnight relay is free and donations are always welcomed.
