An electrical problem was likely the cause of a house fire in southeastern Sioux Falls tonight.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue says they were called to the home at 3804 S. Kris Drive at around 6:45. They say quite a few neighbors called the fire in.
When crews arrived, smoke could be seen coming from home's roof vents. The fire started in the main bathroom vent. Crews had to cut through the roof to put out the smoke coming from the attic.
No one was injured as the home was vacant at the time of the fire.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Steve Brunette said, "We have a report from a previous homeowner that there was possibly some electrical problems from before. The power was shut down and the homeowners moved."
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue says it was reported that cleaning crews came in and may have activated the switches, however, that hasn't been confirmed. The fire was put out within about 15 minutes. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
