Regents Look To Freeze Tuition, Fees For Residents

Bookmark and Share

The South Dakota Board of Regents wants to freeze tuition and fees for resident on-campus students in its 2015 budget proposal.

The plan would keep students' costs stable by increasing state funding to cover about $7.6 million in expected expenses due to a rise in the costs of salaries, benefits, health insurance claims and inflation.

The proposal will go to governor, who can make changes before he submits it to the Legislature.

The original proposal sought a $4.6 million increase, but regents asked to up the number to plan for an expected 15 percent jump in health insurance claim costs.

The draft budget anticipates a 3 percent salary increase and an additional 1 percent in salary enhancement for faculty and exempt staff. Inflation is assumed to be at 3 percent.
