De Smet Man Dies in Crash

Bookmark and Share

A De Smet man died in a crash involving a motorcycle and a farm tractor.

The Highway Patrol says the bike and tractor collided on U.S. Highway 14 four miles east of De Smet about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The motorcycle driver, 52-year-old Gerald Elkins, was killed. The driver of the tractor, 61-year-old Roger Page of De Smet, was not hurt.

The patrol says Page was turning the tractor into his farm yard when Elkins apparently tried to pass him on his motorcycle. The tractor was equipped with lights, signals and a slow-moving vehicle emblem.
