The group "Save Our Neighborhood" had a special guest at their petition signing event.
The petition is challenging the rezoning of a proposed Walmart on the city's Southside.
Last week the group announced they want to collect 8000 signatures by August 29th.
They need 5200 valid signatures to put the issue on the April ballot.
On Tuesday, former US Senator and Representative James Abourezk came out to show his support.
The group says because the rezoning affects more than just their neighborhood, they feel the citizens of Sioux Falls should have a say. And Abourezk agrees. “I'm opposed to driving small businesses out of business, not hurt them,” said Abourezk,
Two weeks ago, the Sioux Falls City Council rezoned 39 acres of land at 85th and Minnesota from agricultural to commercial so the Walmart could be built.
