Another school getting ready for students is the new McGovern Middle School in Sioux Falls. It’s a two-year project that’s now halfway complete.
George McGovern Middle School, named after the late senator from South Dakota, is set to be finished next summer before classes start. The new school has a floor plan similar to Memorial Middle School, with a few changes. Some of them include larger locker rooms, a larger kitchen and even a separate theatre room that will sit more than 300 people.
There is a secured entrance to the front of the building with electric locks and cameras for safety when school is in session. Construction supervisors say the two-story school has around 60 classrooms.
“They are still working on different exterior items and still working on the gym and cafeteria,” said Construction Supervisor Darrel Jones.
This will be the fifth middle school in Sioux Falls. Students from Axtell park will transfer to McGovern Middle School.
