The city of Sioux Falls has hired a contractor to get rid of tree stumps left over from last April’s ice storm.
The work began Wednesday.
Crews will grind the stumps six to eight inches below the surface. Then cover them with top soil and plant grass seed.
Residents can still request stump grinding if the tree is located in a boulevard, which is he area between the sidewalk and the street.
It will take crews four to five weeks to grind down the 1,250 stumps throughout the entire city. The city says the stump removal contract was awarded at $100,000, but could go higher as more stumps are added.
