Twelve-thousand people are expected to attend the Presidents Bowl at Howard Wood Field this weekend. But with construction of the new event center, parking could be an issue.
Howard Wood Field will certainly be a busy place within the next month. The field will host The Presidents Bowl, Dakota Bowl and The Festival of Bands.
But while some are worried about finding a parking spot with the construction, the city of Sioux Falls says not to worry.
“We've got Russell Street under construction. We’ve got the parking lot under construction. It’s part of the process says Director of Planning and Building Services, Mike Cooper.
The Parking lots may look messy, but the city of Sioux Falls says there will be plenty of parking for Saturday's Presidents Bowl.
“We have enough parking in the immediate area that these events can succeed," said Cooper.
There is a map of the city’s recommended parking spaces. There are 6 on-site parking lots filled in with blue and the blue lines show off-site street parking that's up to 4 blocks away.
"We are encouraging people to use that off-site parking to the south and to the east because it's going to be pretty accessible," said Cooper.
Though the construction can be seen pretty much everywhere, 5,000 spaces are still available. It isn’t much of a difference from last year. But there is one change this year, there won’t be shuttle services available.
"We did experiment with that last year but it was pretty low usage," said Cooper.
There are designated spots for fans to tailgate. Lots A and B on the map are cut off from each other due to construction. The Convention Center will be open, for people to walk through to get to Howard Wood.
On Saturday, O’Gorman squares off with Lincoln at 4 p.m. and Roosevelt takes on Washington at 7 p.m.
