Each year the South Dakota Hall of Fame selects 10 inductees who are considered "champions for excellence ambassadors." And this year's class is no exception.
Thursday those 10 individuals were recognized. The inductees are selected for their contribution to the state of South Dakota in categories ranging from the professional world to the world of sports.
At Thursday’s event, each inductee shared what it meant for them to receive the honor. And although one inductee is no longer with us, former Governor Bill Janklow's wife, Mary Dean, knew how grateful he would have been to receive such an honor.
This year's hall of fame inductees include: Miles Beacom, Bernard Christenson, Shirley Halleen, Dr. Dennis Knutson, Thomas Lillibridge, Ruth Brennan, Charles Trimble, and Jerry Shoener.
This year's annual honors ceremony will be held September 13 and 14 in Chamberlain.
