A Boy Scout troop added some finishing touchest to the R.F. Pettigrew monument on Saturday.
The statue of the Sioux Falls Pioneer and South Dakota's first full-term United States Senator in South Dakota was installed on May 3rd near 5th Street and Phillips Avenue.
Troop 346 made their mark on the monument by laying stones to create a border around the fifteen foot monument.
The stones are reclaimed construction materials from historic buildings that once stood in the area. The idea came from the sculptor of the monument, Darwin Wolf. Wolf says it is possible the stones may have actually come from buildings Pettigrew had a hand at constructing.
