Wainman Wins Weekly NSIC Honor

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Augustana sophomore kicker Lucas Wainman earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance against MSU Moorhead on Saturday the league announced today.
Wainman, a native of Oviedo, Fla., had a big day in his first career game at Augustana, going 2 for 2 on field goal attempts and 5 for 5 on extra points. Wainman opened the scoring in the game hitting a 41-yard field goal on Augustana's first drive to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead. Wainman made history in his first game at Augustana, breaking a school record which held strong for 34 years. Wainman drilled a 53-yard field goal in the second quarter and now holds the longest field goal in school history which was held by Dave Koehn, who hit a 52-yard field goal against Morningside on Sept. 22, 1979.
The sophomore also holds kickoff and punting duties for Augustana and booted a 53-yard punt, putting one of three down inside the 20 and recorded six touchbacks on eight kickoff attempts.
Augustana will hit the road this weekend to take on Minot State University. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Herb Parker Stadium in Minot, N.D.
