It could be bad news for neighbors trying to stop a Walmart from building a store at 85th and Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls.
Monday Walmart and the owners of the land filed an affidavit regarding petitions submitted over the property's rezoning.
Walmart also issued a statement indicating a group of neighbors did not get enough valid signatures to put the store's location to a citywide vote.
The Walmart statement says, "After conducting our due diligence in conjunction with the Homan family, it is clear that the petitioners fell short of the minimum number of valid signatures required. As we continue to work on behalf of our thousands of Sioux Falls customers to realize a new store to meet their needs, we appreciate that the city’s democratic process provides affected parties an opportunity to do their own due diligence and raise valid concerns if necessary.”
KDLT also talked to Dana Palmer of the Save Our Neighborhood group she said, "we haven’t had a chance to look over the affidavit. But we want to make sure the city does due diligence to make sure the signatures Walmart says are invalid are invalid." Palmer also said she believes they collected enough valid signatures.
