Cost Cutters "Cut-A-Thon" for Amanda Connors

Bookmark and Share

A local Cost Cutters is remembering one of their coworkers who was tragically killed one year ago. The 41st Street location found a way to make the best of a very emotional day.

“I think we’re all a little overwhelmed at times like this. But, I think she would just be amazed,” said Amanda Connors’ Mother, Cathy.

Family, coworkers, and friends reflect on the life that touched so many, and was taken too soon.

“She’s smiling and she’s happy. I mean as soon as you met her you were instantly her friend,” said Amanda’s former coworker, Alissa Doom.

Twenty four year old Amanda Connors was shot and killed in the parking lot of the 41st Street Cost Cutters. She died trying to defend a coworker from a distraught boyfriend.

“It was amazing how the people of the community came to us and helped show their support in helping us get through it,” said hair stylist Brianna Gough.

Exactly one year later, Cost Cutters is holding its second "Cut-A-Thon" in memory of Amanda. Each haircut is ten dollars, and all proceeds go towards a scholarship fund for the Stewart School of Hairstyling. A cause her mother says, Amanda would have been proud of.

“This is what Amanda loved to do. I mean she loved working here, she loved cutting hair, she loved making people feel good about themselves. And I think that’s why so many people are touched by her. It’s because she loved what she did,” said Cathy Connors.

Those who knew Amanda say she would have been right there doing the same thing for everyone else. Something they remind themselves of on such an emotional day.

“It was really tough for me to be here today. I didn’t really want to. But, I think Amanda would do it for me. And I have to do what I can to give back to her because she gave so much to me,” said Alissa Doom.

“Positive, positive, positive things that everyone has said about her. And I know that those are the people that are coming out today. And those are the people that are still praying for her, and for us,” said Cathy Connors.

The first cut-a-thon was held last December, and raised over $5,000.
